The archangel Michael is worshipped by many Jews and Christians. He is for them a messenger of God and a strong hero who fights against the evil in every human being. Many churches, kindergartens and other institutions, but also many boys are named after him.
For Christians, he is holy. According to many Bible scholars, the Hebrew name "Michael" means "he who conquered on behalf of God. " And indeed many pictures show Saint Michael mostly as a knight who defeats the evil dragon with his sword, sometimes even Satan. Also the dragon is an image of greed, covetousness, envy, anger and other devilish bad thoughts, feelings and deeds of people. Jews and Christians believe that Saint Michael fights against evil demons for every soul even beyond death. Other images and stories tell of Michael as the leader of all angels.
